Do you need a fun, but easy DIY project for the holidays? Why not try dyeing bottle brush trees aka sisal trees? We’ve seen it all over Pinterest and we are sure you have too. So, we finally gave it a try. We had so much fun, that we are going to grab more colors and dye a couple more.
You can purchase them with color (will need bleaching) or you can try to find them without. We actually found a couple last year from Target that were ready to dye, but unfortunately haven’t seen them bring back this year. You can shop at your neighborhood craft store (Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, Etc.) or purchase online from Amazon.
MATERIALS.
— Assorted Bottle Brush Trees / Sisal Craft Trees
— Bleach
— Glass Bowls and/or Cups
— Water
— Rit Dye (colors we used: wine and hyacinth)
— Paper Towel for Drying
— Rubber Gloves
— Hair Dryer (optional)
WHERE TO BUY SUPPLIES.
STEP 1.
If you need to bleach your trees, fill your glass bowl with 2/3 cup warm water and 1/3 cup bleach.
Wearing your rubber gloves, submerged sisal trees in water until color fades to white. If you do not want the white snow, you can carefully rub them off.
It is also okay if they bend, you can straighten them out later.
Once your trees have lost all its color, gently rinse them in warm water and lay them out to dry.

STEP 2.
Fill up a few bowls or cups with warm water and add your dye — You can go as light or dark.

Wearing your gloves, dip your trees into the dye mixture and remove once you are happy with the color. If you would like to try the gradient look, dip your tree into your second dye mixture half way until you are happy with the color transition.
After dyeing, rinse under cold water and set on paper towel to dry. Once they have air dried, use a hair dryer to fully dry your trees (especially the center). Having it too damp may cause the center coil to rust.

Now that you have dyed your trees, what’s next? We are sharing a couple of inspo below on how you can use your creation and add them to your holiday decor.
